Creative Commons Philippines’ Deputy Project Lead Atty. Michael Vernon Guerrero spoke about “Copyright: Issues and Concerns” at the 6th National Conference on eLearning: “Learning about Technology, eLearning with Technology for the Academe and Industry”, at the University of Santo Tomas, St. Martin de Porres Auditorium (Medicine Auditorium).

This event was organized by the Philippine e-Learning Society.

The one-hour talk (which aimed to provide a legal orientation to seminar participants) compressed the following concepts:

    • The intangible nature of intellectual property (e.g. copyright).
    • Understanding Works.
    • Who creates works?
    • Who owns works?
    • Which works are protected by law?

    • What the law does not protect, even if expressed.
    • Works of the government vis-a-vis public domain.
  • Part 2: Legal utilization of Works Protected by Copyright (within the context of strict Copyright regime)

    • Fair Use
    • Reproduction of published work
    • Reprographic Reproduction by Libraries
    • Reproduction of Computer Program
    • Importation for Personal Purposes
    • Penalties to Illegal acts
  • Part 3: Issues and Concerns in the digital age

    • Public (repository) vs. Public domain
    • Licensing
